50 National PTA Reflections Art Program 2019-2020

Theme: "Look Within"

Then sign them up for the 50 National PTA Reflections Art Program!


The Reflections Program is a National PTA and WSPTA cultural arts competition. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. The Reflections Program is open to all grades. Entries are critiqued against others in the same grade division and judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme.


2019-2020 Reflections Theme is "Look Within"

Young artists get involved in Reflections through their local PTA or PTSA. A student may submit an entry in any of six arts areas. Only original works of art are accepted. The six art areas are: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, 2D and 3D Visual Arts, Film/Video and Choreography/Dance. (Click on links for rules).



  1. PICK an Art Category. Click on Links below for Category Rules. Students may enter in one or more arts categories, but not more that one entry per category. 

    Visual Arts 2D and 3D - Includes collages, photographic collages (multiple photos cut/pasted), computer generated image; dioramas, drawing, painting, and printmaking NOT exceed 24" x 30" max and 1/2" thickness max. Mounted and protected. 

    Literature  Includes prose, poetry, drama (screen play and play script), reflective essay, narrative, or short story etc. Not to exceed 2,000 words. 

    Music  Create an original musical composition recorded not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size on USB. 

    Photography – Original photograph printed no smaller than 3"x5" and no larger than 8" x 10". Mounted (no larger than 11" x 14"and protected. 

    Dance Choreography – Create and perform an original dance recorded not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size on USB. 

    Film Production - Original work of one student no longer than 5 minutes and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size recorded on USB. 

    Special Artist Division The National PTA Special Artist Division is an option for students with a disability as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). 

    ***Student Entry Form - must be completed for each entry and be signed by both parent and student. 

  2. READ COMPETITION RULES CAREFULLY. Rules and entry forms for each category can be found from the links above and in the school lobby.
  3. CREATE a project that expresses the theme “Look Within”. Be creative and have fun! Entries should be created at home and entirely the student’s original work. Have student create a unique title and project statement explaining how the work interprets the theme.
  4. PREPARE entries for display and judging according to the category rules. Entries that do not follow all of the rules will not be eligible to advance to LWSD Council competition. 

    Warning! Don't do plagiarism! 

    Art pieces that will be identified as plagiarism will be excluded! 

  5. TURN-IN final entries, along with COMPLETED Student Entry Forms, to the RHE school office by Friday, October 25th.
  6. Try to win $100. Create a new theme for the next year, fill out Theme search form and send it to the office by Friday, October 25th. More information about previous theme is under the form.
  7. PARENTS: We need several volunteers to make this an enriching and exciting experience for your children. It takes many people and a lot of time to find judges, coordinate an artwork display, create flyers and posters, promote the program within the classrooms, provide treats for the reception, and help bring entries to the Resource Center! Please volunteer! We appreciate anything you can do to make this program successful.

Participants in Reflections will:

  • Have fun creating original works of art at home.
  • Have their entries judged by local art professionals.
  • Have their entries displayed at school.
  • Attend a special reception.
  • Receive a ribbon for participating and awards based on judging.
  • Top entries will advance to the LWSD PTA Council competition and maybe on to state and national competitions!

Final Artwork Entries are due Friday, October 25th, 2019!
